Time Traveler by Tom Burgoon George Washington Takes an Incredible Trip into the Unknown The Story Im sure youve all heard the story of George Washington crossing the Delaware River during the battle of Trenton in 1776. But theres a strange tale about this even that the history books seem to have left out. It seems that as Washington was crossing the Delaware with his troops they encountered very rough waters not to mention huge pieces of ice. As Washington stood perched surveying the river the boat struck an unseen piece of ice just below the surface. Washington fell from the boat into the icy river. (DROP DISK INTO GLASS) the troops frantically tried to rescue their leader but the ice and rough water made it impossible. George Washington The Father of our Country had apparently drowned. Now for the really weird part As the saddened troops finally reached the opposite side of the river they were stunned to see George Washington standing on the bank without a scratch and bone dry Needless to say the attack on the English went on as scheduled. (THE GLASS IS SHOWN EMPTY and THE COIN IS REPRODUCED from the POCKET) The Theory Some say George Washington fell into a type of Time Vortex that projected him into the future and across the river. Washington had absolutely no recollection of what happened after hitting the ice water. He never spoke of the event again. Comes complete with secret gimmick and routine … Read more at our Magic Shop – World-of-magic.co.uk

666 Mentalism by Howard Adams (Book)

February 25, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

666 Mentalism by Howard Adams Howard Adams has been around for a LONG time and his specialty is self working and mathematical magic and mentalism effects. I have no idea how his mind can generate these kinds of effect with this much variety but create he does. Howards books and booklets have been released in series (Such as OICUFESP and MINDESPA) and in books by a variety of publishers. The commercial effect Will the card match is based on one of Howards principles. Look at any list of creators of easy to do self-working card effects and Howards name will be high on the list. Howards contributions can be seen in Simply Impromp2 by Aldo Colombini and Howards book Mathcasts Aspellonu is often quoted as a resource for this kind of material. In this book Howard has created 66 self working packet effects using 6 cards each. (thus the title get it 666 Mentalism) Each effect is explained in Howards straight forward no-nonsense and to the point fashion and we have left them as he wrote them word for word. You can read a sample here. I think often people ignorantly poo poo self working magic because they dont understand it. It is true that you will find NO sleight of hand no finger flinging and no hard to do gaffs in this book. Instead you get 66 (Plus a few extra bonuses) simple effects and plot outlines that can be done 100 in the spectators hands Many of these do not require the performer to touch the cards at all. Some could be done over the phone or through the MAIL. I know of several performers who have used this kind of magic over the phone with radio DJs heard by thousands and thousands of listeners To the listening audience you could read minds or predict an outcome that you have NO WAY OF INFLUENCING. The material in this book is great stuff for brainstorming and workshops.

If you are one of those who hasnt yet discovered the ingenious almost diabolic manner in which Richard Mark approaches his craft then you are in for a surprise. Imagine You show a sealed envelope (from the Fantasy House Clearing Sweepstakes) which remains in full view. An audience participant freely selects and names aloud a celebrity and three sweepstakes prizes. He is given the envelope – no switches – to open and read the contents. The letter inside announces in typical advertising hype that the participant is a finalist in the sweepstakes and that the celebrity named will present one of three prizes – the very same prizes selected by the participant You tear a page from the daily newspaper into dozens of pieces.

Imagine a book filled with HUNDREDS of pages talking about the method script psychology and thinking behind some amazing routines. A borrowed crushed water bottle which contains an unseen word that has been written by a spectator VISIBLY uncrushes itself and the spectators breaths their thoughts into the bottle and the performer inhales those thoughts and reads their mind A spectator tries to crush an aluminum can with strength by pressing on the ends of the can (Nearly impossible if you ever tried) and it proves futile. The performer without touching the can or the spectators hands concentrates and causes the can to begin to crush in the spectators hands. The feel and hear the can moving and twisting all the way During a mind reading routine a pen that the spectators has held and used to write with and which became a mental link between performer and spectator is shown to have exploded inside the clear barrel do to an overload of thought In the meanwhile the performer reads the spectators mind regarding a symbol and a word A triple effect with a visual kick Another bottle effect where the bottle visibly crushes itself and restores itself as well A metal bending effect where a paper clip bends and unfolds itself and THEN bends into the shape of a spectators thought A wad of cotton (Theoretically borrowed) reveals the initial a spectator is thinking of A serial number reading effect where the performer is able to divine the number on a borrowed folded bill and then cause the bill to unfold by itself. Here is the Publishers Fwd which I think sums up what the book is about very well Publishers Foreword What is the number one fundamental thing lacking in mentalism but which traditional magic has going for it The Visual Element. One of the biggest challenges within mentalist and psychic entertainment is to give the spectator something to look at. We are a very visual people. With the infiltration of television and the internet on every facet of our lives this is even more true today than during Annemanns years- and even HE spoke of the lack of a visual element as being a short coming. Then along came Uri Geller. Aside from thrusting what we do into a level of public interest that has not been matched except (Maybe arguably) by John Edward in recent years weather intentionally or not Uri gave the mentalism community at large a whole new thing to do besides reading minds- and best of all it was VISUAL. Better still Uri had big TV behind him and so the concept of bending spooks and keys via psychic ability went from novel oddity to almost an EXPECTATION in the minds of the lay public. BUT- that is also as far as it went.
